Faux Love

Sweater: Lemon Cookie  Faux Leather Pants: 7 For All Mankind  Faux Fur Hat: Forever 21 (Similar One)

I traveled to St. Petersburg, and Moscow years ago and fell in love with the beauty of Russia.  I was captivated by the people, fashion, and culture.  I came home with gorgeous scarves, and jewelry from the street markets.  This outfit was influenced by my trip to Russia and the street fashion that I witnessed there.

This ushanka inspired hat and gummy skinny jeans are perfect for animal lovers.  Faux fur and leather look just as chic as the real deal.  I found my hat at Forever 21 awhile ago, but here is a similar one from Etsy.  Guarantee you'll stay warm and fashionable especially if you've been trapped in this polar vortex.

I think I'm ready for Sochi! Wishful thinking...

Winter White

The winter months are a great time to wear white.  The key to wearing white on white is to accessorize. Try a printed scarf in bold colors to perk things up.  My Hermes scarf is my new favorite accessory-- the colors are vibrant and print is beautiful making me want to wear it with everything.  Scarves are an essential piece to have in your wardrobe and can be worn a million ways.  My personal favorite is to adorn my hair with one elevating a simple outfit.  Light is limited during the cold winter months.  What better time than to brighten things up and in style?

Katie and I decided to shoot in one of our favorite antique stores in downtown LA called Olde Good Things.  I could spend hours and my life savings in stores like this.  I almost walked away with the elephant!

Basically

Just the basics is what I gravitate towards on those busy days.  You simply can't go wrong with a classic white t-shirt and Levi's jeans.  My DVF bag is the perfect accessory to compliment this effortless look.  The hardware on the bag isn't over the top yet adds just the right touch.  It's also roomy enough for my ipad, moleskin, and daily accoutrements.  Basically, a charming handbag or scarf is all you need to transform plain to fresh.

Deep berry tones compliment almost every skin tone, and light up your best features.  The richness of this color is dramatic, elegant and is sure to turn heads.  This season's love affair with the different shades of berry makes it easy to incorporate into your style.  Whether it's makeup, clothes, or accessories try on the shade that's right for you and you'll be sure to make an impression.

"And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been."

Wishing you a new year full of opportunity, courage to fulfill, faith to believe.  And most important of all, to love and be loved.  Happy New Year!

Tis the season to celebrate and be merry.  What better way to do it than with some sparkle?  I know sequins and sparkle seem predictable during the holidays.  But, they're like wearing an exclamation point so you better believe that I'm jumping on this bandwagon.  Besides, we all worked hard throughout the year, it's OK to close it out like a disco ball.  Let your hair down and shine!

I started this blog as a passion project less than a year ago and have received a lot of support.  Thank you all for the love.  Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season!  xx

sweater dress (noun), 1. understated sexy.

The sweater dress is another classic favorite of mine.  Depending on how cold the climate--they can be styled in multiple ways.  This Vince cashmere sweater dress is effortlessly stylish in a perfect shade of pumpkin spice. Since I'm in Los Angeles, I opted for bare legs and my Matisse booties.  It's a perfect date night outfit for your special love.

Independence Day

Jacket: Thread & Supply, T-Shirt: Boyfriend's Tee, Skirt: b2000, Shoes: Old Navy
Photos by Katie Parker

Fourth of July also known as Independence Day inspired this look.  I couldn't think of a more appropriate time to cut up an ex-boyfriend's tee in honor of one's independence.  Or if you ever find a men's t-shirt you like you can grab a pair of scissors and create your own design.  I turned a big t-shirt into a tank that I paired with an A-line skirt.  If you don't dare the bare then I recommend a sweet lace bralette underneath the tank.  This Thread & Supply denim jacket has become an obsession.  It's not only ideal for the 4th of July, but to show patriotism all year round.  Hope you all have a fantastic 4tth!  Cheers to Independence!

*Thanks HH! ;)

Retro Thursday

Dress: Stella & Jamie, Scarf: Topshop, Shoes: Steve Madden, Clutch: Gucci, Sunglasses: Street Market

For this look, we decided to shoot at the County of Los Angeles Public Library (yes, libraries still exist)!  I've always been inspired by retro fashion.  If I could pick any era to live in it would be the 50s-60s.  The fashion went from feminine & elegant to hippie & daring.  Who wouldn't want to live in an era where you could dress like Jackie O, Dorothy Dandridge, Brigitte Bardot?  If I could, I'd happily walk around all day in a beehive hairdo, little black dress, and gloves.  But, since I'm an old-fashioned gal living in a modern world--I mix the old with the new.  The shape and hemline of this dress is reminiscent of the 50s yet the cut-out detail makes it very modern.  I kept the look simple with no jewelry and instead chose a patterned scarf and circle sunglasses.

Below are some photographs of iconic muses that always did it right.

Coachella

Coachella is about the fashion as much as it is the music.  I love the "anything goes" spirit of the festival.  You can be as free and expressive as you'd like--so have fun!

I went to Coachella for the first time last weekend and had such a great time.  I went up with one of my best friends, Taraji P. Henson for the day to see the Wu Tang Clan perform.  I've been a big fan of Wu Tang for so long and it was an even bigger bonus to find out how nice they are.  We were able to watch the entire performance from the stage so I was able to capture some amazing pictures of the crowd, and their energy. Wu Tang's performance was backed by a full orchestra--and they killed it.   If you're headed out to Coachella this weekend--have a fantastic time!

*Tip: It's scorching hot during the day and chilly in the evening.  I'd bring a jacket and sunglasses for the evening since it can get pretty windy.  We got caught in a sandstorm so be prepared for that too.
