City by the Bay

I've been in and out of San Francisco a few times, but never had a chance to fully see the city.  So when my boyfriend surprised me with a weekend getaway there (one of his favorite places) as part of my Valentine's present...I was ecstatic.  We started off by staying a night in Big Sur, words and photos don't describe the beauty of this place.  It may be one of the most breathtaking places on earth! We stayed at the Ventana Inn & Spa a perfect little gem tucked away in the woods.   You'll most definitely spot a family of deer while enjoying a glass of wine watching the sunset from your hammock.

We spent the rest of our weekend in San Francisco.  My boyfriend has been on location in the city several times so he was my ideal tour guide.   We stayed at the Hotel Vitale located on the waterfront in the Embarcadero/Financial district. We took in the gorgeous view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the top of Hawk Hill and city view from Twin Peaks.  And, of course, we ate-- fresh oysters at The Ferry Building, perfect roasted chicken at Zuni Cafe, inventive kung pao pastrami at Mission Chinese, crab pasta at Slanted Door, crab cocktail at Swan Oyster Depot, and loads of wine, coffee, dessert.  The weekend couldn't have been better!

I'm excited about several collaborations coming up.  First up will be an instagram takeover for on April 11th for Coachella.  Make sure you follow them on instagram @poseapp to see the Coachella inspired fashion I'll be posting.

The animal print is not a fleeting trend.  It's always in style especially the classic black-and-tan.  I always keep several pieces of this bold print in my wardrobe.  Whether it's a clutch, an over-sized coat or a scarf--let your inner glamour girl say yes (rawr!) to this daring pattern.

Deep berry tones compliment almost every skin tone, and light up your best features.  The richness of this color is dramatic, elegant and is sure to turn heads.  This season's love affair with the different shades of berry makes it easy to incorporate into your style.  Whether it's makeup, clothes, or accessories try on the shade that's right for you and you'll be sure to make an impression.

"And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been."

Wishing you a new year full of opportunity, courage to fulfill, faith to believe.  And most important of all, to love and be loved.  Happy New Year!

A lot of people describe the 80s as bad fashion.  Everything was bigger and brighter.  What's so bad about that?  From the acid wash jacket to the V pattern clutch--my casual look was influenced by one of my favorite decades.  Come on, you have to admit the 80s had the best music, cartoons, and wacky trends. Eric Daman costume designer for "The Carrie Diaries" and assistant costume for "Sex and the City"writes about how his creations are heavily motivated by the 80s.  Go ahead rock those big earrings and shoulder pads--express yourself!

Magnolia Bakery was featured on an episode of "Sex and the City" so when they opened one in West Hollywood, I was thrilled.  They have the BEST chocolate cake and banana bread pudding.  And right around the corner you can check out a cool wall mural by the street artist Retna.

The Stripe Type

Monochrome particularly in stripes is super hot now. Contrary to what you may think, horizontal stripes have more of a slimming look and there's even a science behind it.  Don't avoid the stripe hype just because you're afraid of looking wide or like a jailbird.  The slimmer the stripes the slimmer the illusion. My look is bigger stripes on little stripes (skort has thin lines) with a pop of color.  And yes, the skort!  It's the great bluff--the comfort of shorts with the look of a skirt.  So are you the horizontal or vertical type?

Coachella is about the fashion as much as it is the music.  I love the "anything goes" spirit of the festival.  You can be as free and expressive as you'd like--so have fun!

I went to Coachella for the first time last weekend and had such a great time.  I went up with one of my best friends, Taraji P. Henson for the day to see the Wu Tang Clan perform.  I've been a big fan of Wu Tang for so long and it was an even bigger bonus to find out how nice they are.  We were able to watch the entire performance from the stage so I was able to capture some amazing pictures of the crowd, and their energy. Wu Tang's performance was backed by a full orchestra--and they killed it.   If you're headed out to Coachella this weekend--have a fantastic time!

*Tip: It's scorching hot during the day and chilly in the evening.  I'd bring a jacket and sunglasses for the evening since it can get pretty windy.  We got caught in a sandstorm so be prepared for that too.
